HAPI Holds Humboldt Asian Histories & Futures Panel and Community Conversation

Humboldt Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity’s program brings together community members, historians and local artists to remember Humboldt’s Chinese expulsions and their reverberations today. The program is followed by an open discussion on how to be decent, respectful and loving humans to one another, lest we repeat history. ‘Eureka Chinatown Project’ Will Rename, Add Mural to Downtown Alley to Teach Community About the History of Chinese-Americans in Humboldt “Chinatown” Alley, between E and F Streets and 4th and 5th Streets in Eureka | Photo: Andrew Goff The alleyway between E and F Streets and Third and Fourth Streets near Old Town Eureka, which was once the center of Eureka’s Chinatown neighborhood, will soon be renamed and redecorated as a part of the Eureka Chinatown Project an effort educate the community on the history of the Chinese people who once lived in the area and why they were forced to leave.

This year, join Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI, formerly Taiko Swing Humboldt) and Humboldt State University’s Asian Desi Pacific Islander Collective, the HSU Library, and the critical race, gender and sexuality studies department on Saturday, Jan. 30 at online “multi-faceted streamed event and facilitated discussion,” including a condensed version of Swingposium on the Road, featuring San Jose Taiko and the HSU Jazz Orchestra.
