Jan 23, 2021 HUBBARD Matt Carano, 43, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 20, 2021, at home. He was born Oct. 19, 1977, in Sharon, Pa., a son of Joseph S. and Sue E. Grande Carano, and was a lifelong Hubbard resident. Mr. Carano, a 1996 graduate of Hubbard High School, attended Penn State University and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy when he was younger. Matt was a tow motor operator for Liberty Steel. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He leaves his parents, Joe and Sue of Hubbard; and his brother, Tony Carano of Hubbard.

STRUTHERS Carmen Tanferno, 39, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Carmen was born Jan. 18, 1981, in Youngstown, the son of Carmen Tanferno and MaryAnn Campana. He was a 1999 graduate of Hubbard High School and was currently enrolled at Youngstown State University, where he was studying business. Most recently, Carmen worked as a driver for Savanna Springs. Carmen was a people person, always entertaining and making people laugh. He had a smile that could light up any room. He loved sports, especially football, basketball and his beloved Chicago Bears. Above all, Carmen enjoyed being with his family, especially his children who gave him the most joy.

bcoupland@tribtoday.com HUBBARD An effort to beautify the community with various painted eagle statues also will help benefit the Harding Park Meeting House project. “Flight of the Eagles” is a way to raise money to build a replica of an 1857 meeting house at Harding Park by creating at least 12 eagle statues. The statues, 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, would be placed throughout the community and uniquely painted or decorated by area artists. Project organizers said it’s an effort similar to what many communities have done, such as Youngstown State University and its penguins and a similar effort in Warren years
