KHULNA, May 05, 2021(BSS) – Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak today said government is procuring paddy directly from the farmers so that they will get fair price through using ‘Krishaker App’ during Covid-19 pandemic.
“Government is working untiringly for wellbeing of the farmers to ensure their better livelihood to make the country a developed one,” he said this today (Wednesday) while virtually inaugurated Boro Paddy procurement prgramme in Dumuria upazila in Khulna.
At present, there is no food scarcity in the country, he said, adding that adequate food was hoarded in the government depot, but a vested quarter is out to campaign about food scarcity.
BB stops supplying new banknotes from head office The New Nation

The Bangladesh Bank has stopped supplying new banknotes from its head office in Motijheel in the capital to general people ahead of Eid-ul Fitr in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus.
However, holidaymakers can collect new banknotes, popularly used as Eidi or Eid tips, as the central bank has provided the notes to cash counters and ATM booths of commercial banks and its 10 branch offices.
Long before the lockdown, BB took the decision to release fresh banknotes of various denominations worth Tk 30,000 crore ahead of Eid to check the rush for collecting fresh banknotes to its head office.

Police have sought a 24-day remand for Mamunul Haque, the joint secretary general of the recently dissolved committee of Hefajat-e-Islam, and also prayed to a Narayanganj court to show him arrested in three cases filed with Sonargaon Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Police Station Hafizur Rahman told The Daily Star, In the morning, we submitted an appeal to the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate to show Mamunul arrested in the three cases and to place him on a 24-day remand. No order was issued till 1:00pm.
Onion harvest ending predicting bumper production in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 29, 2021 (BSS) – Onion harvest is nearing completion with excellent yield rate predicting a bumper production of the spicy crop making farmers happy in Rangpur agriculture region this season.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) at its regional office Agriculturist Khandker Abdul Wahed said farmers are reaping better profits from selling their newly harvested onions in all five districts of the region.
Market sources said farmers are selling their newly harvested local variety onion at rates between Taka 1,300 and Taka 1,400 per mound (every 40 kgs) to local middlemen and wholesalers.
30 Rohingyas trying to go to Malaysia through trawler rescued from Cox’s Bazar

Bangladesh Coast Guard members today rescued 30 Rohingyas, who were trying to go to Malaysia illegally by a trawler through the Bay of Bengal, from Teknaf upazila in Cox s Bazar.
The Rohingya refugees trying to travel to Malaysia include twenty women, five men and five children. They were refugees from Kutupalong and Balukhali camps of the district, our Cox s Bazar staff correspondent reports. The coast guards also seized the trawler.
Quoting the Rohingyas, Amirul Haque, an official of Coast Guard s media wing, told reporters around 50 Rohingyas boarded the trawler from the sea beach in Teknaf, and Ukhia upazila on April 22.
