HANNIBAL â When the Ann Dorsey Hodgdon Park in Hannibal is renovated later this year, Girl Scout Troop 9012 will be credited with filling the role of consultant in regards to the new equipment the park will feature.
The partnership between the Girl Scouts and the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department took root two years ago. In November 2019 members of the troop met with the Hannibal Park Board and were invited to offer suggestions.
âWhat I would like to do is work with you girls on picking out some of the playground features,â said Andy Dorian, Hannibalâs director of central services, during that meeting two years ago. âWe are adults and donât know what kids like to play on so we are going to use your advise.â
HANNIBAL, Mo. â A proposal that would raise the city of Hannibalâs sales tax rate by one half cent will appear on the August 2021 ballot. If approved, revenue generated by the tax increase would be used solely for infrastructure improvements.
The ballot measure was brought before the Hannibal City Council during its Tuesday night meeting at city hall by Fourth Ward Councilman Alan Bowen.
âThe city has a long list of necessary infrastructure improvements that without adequate funding continues to deteriorate and grow,â he said.
Consideration was given to raising the cityâs property tax.
âThe cityâs property tax has not been increased since the 1970s. However, increasing this may hurt fixed-income citizens if the city chose to raise property taxes,â Bowen said. âIn my opinion, a low property tax gives incentive to build here as witnessed by many new subdivisions being built within the city.â
HANNIBAL â With the Martin Street stormwater project essentially completed, the city of Hannibal is now focused on another major stormwater project on the South Side. On Tuesday night, the Hannibal City Council took a significant step forward regarding that repair when it approved an engineering agreement with Poepping, Stone, Bach and Associates.
PSBA will be paid a lump sum not to exceed $98,255 for the design of the project which will include replacement structures for the 175 feet of stone archway that failed beneath Union Street a little over a year ago. Other services which will be provided by PSBA, which was recommended to the city council by members of the city staff and Hannibal Board of Public Works, include topographic and design surveys, geotechnical services, contract plans and cost estimates, easement deeds and construction services.
