SA Senate amends election bylaws

The Student Association Senate unanimously approved a bill to amend election bylaws, outlining conditions for a secondary SA election following a tie between two candidates, during its final meeting of the year. The bill limits the SA’s campaign period to 10 class days, allows students to write in candidates for all uncontested seats and renames a runoff election as a secondary election. SA Sen. Thomas Falcigno, CPS-G and the sponsor of the legislation, said the bill ensures that “no discrepancy” exists between election guidelines in the SA constitution, the SA’s charter and Joint Elections Commission bylaws.

Hill, the former SA executive vice president who originally ascended to the presidency in January, was elected to the SA’s top spot in the organization’s first fully virtual election season. He ran on a platform to add more positions to the executive branch and improve student inclusivity in the SA. “I’m thankful for all the support and love that the campaign has received thus far,” Hill said. “I’m thankful to all the voters, even those who didn’t vote for me, for doing their civic duty. But I look forward to earning their votes throughout the academic year.”

Former SA diversity, inclusion VP joins race for president

News By Celeste Noraian Mar 3, 2021 11:41 PM A fourth candidate for Student Association president has joined the race, running on a platform to provide financial relief opportunities for low-income students and hold community-wide events between SA members and the student body. Hannah Edwards, a junior and former SA vice president for diversity and inclusion, said she wants to push for updated scholarship opportunities for students. Edwards said she will use the connections she has made with officials and SA support to create an “inclusive culture” through hosting events, like an LGBTQ health and advocacy conference and a student-led conference about men and women of color.
