HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - If you have a high school student who attends Huntsville City or Madison County Schools, we now know plans for graduation.
Seniors who attend Madison County Schools will be graduating May 25th and May 26th at the VBC in Huntsville.
High school seniors in Huntsville City Schools will take place the following two days, Thursday, May 27th and Friday, May 28th at the VBC, just like last year.

Huntsville’s New Century Tech High School and Mountain Brook High School remained in second and third, as well.
Many of the schools also were highly-ranked last year. Most also are in cities and suburbs and have higher numbers of white students than the state average population.
“Families can use the Best High Schools rankings to see how schools compare at the national, state and local level on factors like graduation rates and college readiness,” said Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News. “The rankings also provide insight into academic performance among underserved groups showing how well schools are supporting these students.”

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - On April 22, members of the Huntsville City Council came together to review an in-depth report about the June 2020 protests in downtown Huntsville. The protests started peacefully but ended with tear gas and rubber bullets.
More training - that’s what 10 months of review boil down to from an independent counsel brought in by the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council.

A 248-page report was reduced down to a presentation from legal representation for the council on Thursday night. The common theme from the report and public commentators was police need more training and better communication when it comes to matters of protests.
Huntsville school officials knew Nigel Shelby was suicidal, lawsuit says

Nigel Shelby, 15, died by suicide in April, 2019. His family has hired a prominent civil rights attorney to investigate the school system s treatment of their son.

The family of Nigel Shelby, the 15-year-old boy who took his own life in 2019, filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against Huntsville City Schools as well as the city of Huntsville alleging school officials failed to stop him from being bullied because he was openly gay and that bullying led to his suicide.
The lawsuit also maintains that Huntsville school administrators knew that Shelby was considering suicide and took no action.
