The Hoopa Valley Tribe received $5 million, while the Karuk Tribe was awarded $2 million. “This past year was a stark reminder of just how important access to safe, stable housing is especially in Tribal communities disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Secretary Marcia L. Fudge. “The funding HUD is awarding today will support much needed affordable housing investments in Indian Country.”

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Frontline workers could be eligible to buy a home at a deep discount.
The goal of this program is two-fold. It aims to provide homes to frontline workers at a 50 percent discount while revitalizing communities around the country.
According to USA Today Money, eligible participants can buy homes at 50 percent off the current appraised value.
For example, if a home appraises for $300,000, the buyer will pay $150,000. The other half becomes a âsilentâ second mortgage that is forgiven after 36 months of living in that home.

Hundreds of senior students from one of Wellington s biggest high schools are being forced to study from home because their classrooms leak and are riddled with toxic mould.
The principal of Hutt Valley High School is blaming the Ministry of Education saying officials have known about the problems for years and failed to act.
Virtual information sessions to provide help to Louisiana residents affected by recent storms

Virtual information sessions are planned to begin this week for storm survivors in Louisiana.
The sessions, which run from April 14 through April 24, will provide survivors with resources to assist in recovery efforts from the recent Louisiana disasters.
FEMA says the virtual information sessions are an alternate response to continue current state disaster recovery efforts during the national pandemic situation.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), FEMA, USDA, SBA, and various offices from the State of Louisiana in partnership with other local, state, federal, nonprofit, and community partners will participate.

Buried in the nearly 18,000-word White House Fact Sheet on President Joe Biden’s proposed $2.3 trillion “American Jobs Plan” infrastructure bill is one paragraph that could turn the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) into a zoning commission for suburban America.
“For decades, exclusionary zoning laws like minimum lot sizes, mandatory parking requirements, and prohibitions on multifamily housing have inflated housing and construction costs and locked families out of areas with more opportunities,” the fact sheet claims.
“President Biden is calling on Congress to enact an innovative, new competitive grant program that awards flexible and attractive funding to jurisdictions that take concrete steps to eliminate such needless barriers to producing affordable housing.”
