Hazaribag: As many as four forest officials were grievously injured when a group of mafias, involved in timber trade and stone quarrying, attacked them in Gautam Buddha Wildlife Sanctuary while they, along with seven others, were conducting a raid on Tuesday night.
“The four have been admitted at Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH) and an FIR has been lodged against 10 unidentified persons and four identified ones based on a complaint filed by Anil Raman, the local forester which was leading the team of officials,” Barhi sub-divisional police officer Nazir Akhtar said. However, no arrests have been made yet.
Raman and his team ventured into the sanctuary’s Dhanua-Buluwa forest range under Chauparan police station limits, located around 80km from Hazaribag town, to conduct a raid and stop the construction of a well. When Raman challenged the mafias, one of them, identified as Narayan Singh, attacked him and others with weapons.

HAZARIBAG: The death toll due to the blasts caused by adulterated kerosene in Hazaribag district mounted to five on Tuesday late night after Urmila Devi (45), resident of Sekha village under Amnari panchayat, succumbed to her burn injuries at Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims).
Hazaribag deputy commissioner Aditya Kumar Anand said, “Urmila worked at a hotel in Hazaribag after her husband died a few years ago in an accident. She is survived by her four children. Urmila had collected her quota of kerosene and on March 1, when she lit the stove, the oil exploded.”
