Microsoft joins other IT companies for digital records of COVID-19 vaccination
Individuals without smartphones would receive paper printed with QR codes containing the credentials, the companies said.

Tech giants including Microsoft Corp , Oracle Corp and healthcare companies Cigna Corp and Mayo Clinic are part of a coalition pushing for digital records of people who get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The project, called Vaccination Credential Initiative, aims to help people get encrypted digital copies of their immunization records stored in a digital wallet of their choice, the companies said in a statement on Thursday.

Bharti Global and the UK government-led OneWeb on Friday said it has secured additional funding from SoftBank Group and Hughes Network Systems, taking the total funding for the broadband satellite communications company to $1.4 billion (over Rs 10,200 crore).
With the investment, SoftBank will get a seat on OneWeb s board.

Intellian revealed Monday that the company is finishing production of dedicated, Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite user terminals for
OneWeb. Intellian originally partnered with OneWeb in 2019 to build terminals, and the companies restarted their prior agreement after OneWeb emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Intellian’s agreement with OneWeb is for the production of a wide range of dedicated OneWeb user terminal types with a variety of antenna sizes. These terminals are designed to serve sectors including cellular backhaul, enterprise, rural broadband, telecommunications, telemedicine, schools, hospitals, agriculture, mining, government, and maritime including merchant shipping, oil and gas exploration, leisure or fishing. Additionally, this partnership will allow current Intellian customers to use existing Intellian NX series terminals by incorporating an option to upgrade them to operate

More news of satellite support for rural connectivity comes from South Africa with the announcement of a deal between operator Telkom and satellite broadband solutions provider YahClick.
Telkom has partnered with YahClick to offer internet access and voice over IP services to consumers in parts of the country not covered by its network. Not too surprisingly rural areas are expected to be a major target for the satellite-aided services.
