FIS to Elect First New Leader in 23 Years 3rd June 2021
A new President will be chosen to head the International Ski Federation at the governing body’s online Congress tomorrow. A British former alpine racer is hoping to be the first woman to take on the role. NEW
It’s without doubt the most important election for FIS in a long time, perhaps ever.
The person chosen will take over from Gian-Franco Kasper who has run the organisation for 23 years.
No woman has ever been President in its almost 100-year history and only one is among the four candidates.
She is Sarah Lewis who was unceremoniously sacked without warning from her role as Secretary General of FIS last year.

Lehmann wants FIS to take a clear position on climate change and human rights Sunday, 16 May 2021
The International Ski Federation must take a clear position on issues including climate change and human rights, according to Presidential candidate Urs Lehmann.
The Swiss-Ski leader is one of four candidates standing for FIS President, and Lehmann s manifesto includes a pledge to produce a definitive and comprehensive corporate social responsibility policy that addresses climate change, environmental protection, gender disparity, human rights .
Climate change is of particular importance to winter sports, which are reliant on snow or ice to remain viable, and Lehmann wishes to chart a new course where the FIS takes the lead on sustainability and being environmentally responsible.
International Ski Federation Presidential candidate Urs Lehmann has
vowed to give smaller nations a platform to exchange knowledge and
create an FIS that will "serve all members", should he be elected
President.
