Unemployment continues to rise due to the pandemic. PICTURE: PA Wire. Unemployment in Carmarthenshire has increased by 80 per cent in the last year, latest figures have revealed. Data from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) showing the alternative claimant count - which records people who are unemployed and searching for work - shows 5,997 people were looking for a job in November 2020. In Wales the rate of unemployment has risen to 4.6 per cent in the three months to November. Meanwhile, the UK-wide unemployment rate rose to 5 per cent, up from 4.9 per cent. The slowdown in the economy is now visibly hitting the labour market, said a DWP spokesman.
