Just two years earlier, he had graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa, also from Yale, with a bachelor’s degree in physics. His remarkable academic success and substantial early contributions to research as a graduate student suggested a promising future in physics. Except for one thing. Edward Bouchet was Black. Bouchet’s doctorate was, in fact, the first-ever PhD awarded to an African American by an American university in any field. Initially intent on a research career after graduation, Bouchet could find a job only at the Institute for Colored Youth in Philadelphia. At the pinnacle of his career, his last job, he served as principal of a high school in Ohio [1].

Cape Cod Theatre Project Announces 27th Season

The Cape Cod Theatre Project’s 27th season, which will begin on July 1, will include the staged reading of the group’s 100th play. The season will once again be presented in an all-virtual format, with a mix of emerging and established playwrights. This year the Cape Cod Theatre Project welcomes new and in-progress works by Bill Cain, Amy Evans, Selina Fillinger and Mike Lew, who explore themes of identity, hidden secrets, far-reaching love, birth and death. Every week from July 1 through 24, a new play will be performed via a livestreamed reading. Post-show talkbacks will follow each 7 PM performance. During the talkback, audience members can share candid feedback with the playwright, director and actors, feedback that can improve and alter the script, sometimes dramatically from night to night, and ultimately change the final outcome of the play. Supplied Veteran Debian developer Martin Michlmayr has released two reports on foundations that support free and open source software, a primer that covers non-technical aspects and a research report that looks at the challenges that such foundations face. Asked why he had decided to carry out research on this topic, Michlmayr, a former leader of the Debian GNU/Linux project told iTWire that since funding was available, he thought it would be interesting to look at the role that such foundations played in bolstering open source projects.
