SALINE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN CITY OF SLATER AND SHERIFF S DEPARTMENT | KMMO

Due to a shortage on its police force for about a year and a half, the city of Slater has been looking into options for law-enforcement services. The Slater City Council discussed the possibility of contracting with the Saline County Sheriff’s Department for the patrolling of Slater during its most recent meeting. Saline County Sheriff Cindi Mullins was present at the Saline County Commission on Thursday, February 25 to get approval from the commission on the agreement for her department to provide law enforcement services for the city of Slater. Sheriff Mullins said that typically, Sheriff’s Departments only enforce State Law and not City Ordinances, unless there is a contractual agreement with the city.

Due to a shortage on its police force for about a year and a half, the city of Slater has been looking into options for law-enforcement services. The Slater City Council discussed the possibility of contracting with the Saline County Sheriff’s Department for the patrolling of Slater during its meeting on Tuesday, February 23. City Administrator Gene Griffith says the contract was approved which will eliminate the Slater Police Department, but the city will still have 24-hour patrol.

CITY COUNCIL APPROVES REQUEST TO MOVE FORWARD WITH GRANT APPLICATION

The Slater City Council approved a request for the city to apply for a grant during its meeting on Tuesday, January 20. City Administrator Gene Griffith says the council talked about applying for grant money for sidewalks through MoDOT’s Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) a couple of meetings ago. Griffith explains he asked the council to bump up the city’s match to 35 percent to help it get more points in the process. He said by doing this, the city will spend an extra $40,000, but the chances of getting the grant improve quite a bit. Griffith explains what sidewalks are on the docket if the city gets approved for the grant.
