Australia s Boral explores potential sale of struggling U S fly ash business | WTVB | 1590 AM · 95 5 FM

Coldwater, MI, USA / WTVB | 1590 AM · 95.5 FM | The Voice of Branch County Apr 14, 2021 9:34 PM (Reuters) - Australia s Boral Ltd said on Thursday it is exploring a potential sale, or a joint venture, as part of a review of its struggling North American fly ash business. The move comes as the top Australian building materials maker is looking to exit the United States, in a retreat from its global expansion strategy that led to a hefty writedown in 2020. Boral s $1.8 billion acquisition of rival Headwaters in 2016 made the combined entity the largest supplier of fly ash in U.S. markets. However, since then, it has led to an impairment charge and earnings downgrades amid a soft housing market and a push towards cleaner forms of energy generation.

UPDATE 1-Australia s Greenland Minerals says it is focused on rare earths not uranium

By Reuters Staff (Adds executive comment, detail) MELBOURNE, April 9 (Reuters) - Australia’s Greenland Minerals said on Friday uranium was of no great importance to its rare earth mining project in Greenland, as it seeks to assuage concerns in the face of opposition from the Arctic island’s newly formed government. Doubts have risen over the future of the Kvanefjeld project as the left-wing Inuit Ataqatigiit (IA) party pledged on Wednesday its opposition after winning a parliamentary election. Greenland Minerals said it would engage in talks with the new government over the project, helping its shares recover from their worst day on record in the previous session.
