0 Comments Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has been fast diversifying into the production of alternative forms of energy in recent years. As part of its strategy, the company has teamed up with Israeli start-up, Phinergy, for the development of aluminium-air (Al-air) batteries, and the partners are gearing up to soon establish their manufacturing facility. “We’ll be setting up a plant. The MoU has already been signed and, very shortly, we’ll be locating the plant in India,” said Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, chairman, IOCL, at a web conclave organised by our sister publication Autocar Professional on Meeting Emission Challenges .

Unlike last year, we don’t have a nation-wide lockdown this year. This year it has been more localised in different geographies. Compared to last month, overall demand has gone down by about 15% to 20% in all the segments. ATF is the worst hit, but MS, HSD demand has gone down by about 15% to 20% while LPG demand has increased by 10%. ATF was limping the entire last year and it continues to do so. But then everything is on the way to recovery before we hit the second wave. Let us wait and see when things get really normalised. But till date, the demand is about 15% to 20% lower.

He added that the use of hydrogen is expected to increase in a big way .
