OLD, YES, BUT GRAND, TOO The London Tecumsehs plays the Chicago Mutuals on July 15, 1876 at Labatt Park. (London Free Press files)
Originally opened in 1877 as Tecumseh Park, Labatt Memorial Park is the Guinness-certified oldest ballpark in the world in continuous use. Backing onto the Thames River where Wilson Avenue meets Riverside Drive, it is also one of the most beautiful settings where the game has been played, earning accolades like the Beam Clay Award for its stately grounds. A feature in the video game MLB The Show ’21 allows players to create a simulated version of the park, though the faux field doesn’t include the Thames.
