Traffic sign in south Lee County confusing some drivers

Left or right? It’s a decision drivers make a dozen times a day, but some say a sign in south Lee County has the potential to send you in the wrong direction.
Drivers alerted us to a sign on US-41 at the turn onto Michael G. Rippe Parkway, saying it’s a source of confusion. The sign tells drivers Alico Road is at the next signal and has a right arrow, which could send drivers unfamiliar with the area onto Rippe and in a different direction. Alico is actually at the next signal. If that seems confusing, that’s because it can be to drivers who don’t know the area so well.
Dozens of volunteers got together on Saturday to bring a playground back to life for one church community.
There were weeds in the ground, a crooked basketball hoop and busted swings. This playground has not been used in years and has seen better days.
But, with new paint, the place could begin to improve.
The Morningstar Church Community is still recovering from the fire that burned the main church building down about two months ago.
Dwight Williams is the former Morningstar interim pastor. “Buildings burned ministry goes on,” Williams said.
The recovery goes on as well.
Through a partnership with its sister church, Crossroads Baptist Church, over 40 teenagers showed up to revitalized the playground.

In September, the Luminary Hotel and the Caloosa Sound Convention Center opened their doors.
And now, three more hotels are on the way.
The new and improved convention center, formerly Harborside Event Center, and the fact that people want to come to Fort Myers to enjoy the weather are driving the construction.
A new hotel is planned on an empty lot at the intersection of First Street and Jackson Street.
The AC Marriott is in the financing stages but has been given zoning approval to build an 8-story, 132-room hotel. It’s scheduled to be completed in 2022.
Shots fired at park in Alva leaves people scrambling, two hit

Shots were fired at a park Saturday night, leaving multiple people running and screaming for their lives.
The shooting that took place at Charleston Park happened as an event to honor those doing good in the community was abruptly ended.
Neighbors and community members at Charleston Park say on Saturday they saw flashing lights and a helicopter overhead.
A day that started with celebration ended in gunfire.
Clenton Masters is one of those neighbors. “In the evening I heard the music or and so forth over there. All of a sudden I heard it stop and then we hear gunshots,” Masters said.
