GYMS and fitness studios have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, but one personal trainer has put his free time and money to good use and opened up a gym in his back garden. Lee Heywood spent five years as a fitness coach at The Village Hotel but when lockdown restrictions forced the closure of gyms across the country he came up with a plan. A dream holiday to Dubai with his wife Nicola and daughter Grace had been cancelled and the couple decided to invest their travel money on a garden renovation, creating an outdoor gym and workout space called Kaizen Fitness.
THE majority of areas across Warrington recorded next to no new coronavirus cases over the past week. This is according to an interactive map published on the Government’s online coronavirus dashboard which tracks Covid-19 cases in the community. Three or more new coronavirus infections were detected in nine areas of the borough, demonstrating the positive progress of the vaccination programme. The areas with the highest number of new cases only saw a maximum of six recorded over the most recent seven-day period – considerably less that the peak of the pandemic with little cause for concern. In total, coronavirus is virtually non-existent in 16 out of 25 areas in Warrington – the equivalent of approximately two thirds of the town.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Nigel Quarmby and Colin Burgess, who are based at Warrington Fire Station, have received the recognition for their courageous actions during an incident along the river on Saturday, September 22 2018. Crews were called to the scene – near to Forrest Way in Sankey Bridges – shortly after 9pm after receiving reports of a woman threatening to enter the water. She then fell into the Mersey and was swept away by the fast-flowing current.
