A 38-year-old Smyrna woman died Tuesday after being shot in the front parking lot of Smyrna Middle School, according to police.
Smyrna Police Lt. Brian Donner said the shooting occurred around 10:15 a.m. Around two hours later, Donner said police located the sole suspect, a 47-year-old Smyrna man, in Maryland after a pursuit by multiple police agencies.
The man had crashed his car in Galena, Maryland on Maryland Route 213 some 20 miles from the school. He was airlifted to a Maryland hospital, according to Cpl. Jason Hatchell of Delaware State Police.
Donner said the homicide is believed to be domestic related.
