Associate Professor of Music, Cello, Bass, Chamber Music, Theory
Dr. Ruth Boden is an Associate Professor in the School of Music at Washington State University where she teaches cello, bass, music theory and coordinates the chamber music program.
Dr. Boden holds a B.M. and M.M. in cello performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and a D.M.A. from the University of Alabama.
Ruth is an active performer and has appeared as a guest artist with the Mid-Columbia Symphony, Washington Idaho Symphony, Coeur D’ Alene Symphony, and gave the premier performance of Philip Wharton’s Concerto for Violin and Cello with the Rendezvous Orchestra in Moscow, Idaho. She has also been a member of numerous orchestras throughout the Southeast and Northwest, including the Pensacola Symphony, Huntsville Symphony, Tuscaloosa Symphony, Washington Idaho Symphony, and Spokane Symphony among others. Mask mandates are being lifted, the weather is getting warmer, and live music is slowly but surely returning to the Inland Northwest. We ve been overwhelmed in the last couple of weeks by a barrage of concert announcements, so we re running down some of the most anticipated upcoming shows that have either been rescheduled from 2020 or were recently announced. Hamilton s private concert experience stems from the fact that he s been overseeing the recording process for the Spokane Symphony s first-ever streaming concert series, itself a product of the COVID-19 restrictions that continue to limit the size of indoor gatherings. Those same restrictions obviously affect film crews, too, which is why Hamilton has lately found himself enjoying full-blown performances for an audience of one.

Peter Rivera You can start getting your groove back this weekend with a campout and music festival called the
SRD Drive-In Music Fest (that s Socially Responsible Distancing ), taking place Friday through Sunday at 11313 N. Indian Trail Rd. It s both an outdoor hangout and a musical benefit for Jesse Hoorelbeke, whose father is local musician Peter Rivera; Hoorelbeke is currently battling colon cancer, and the event will help ease medical bills. Rivera, a founding member of the 70s rock band Rare Earth, will perform with his band Celebrate, and the lineup also includes Tim Too Slim Langford (he of Taildraggers fame), Sweet Rebel D, Jesse Quandt Band and more recognizable local names. There will also be after-hours acoustic bonfire jams, as well as a memorial to late Spokane musician Tommy Gantt. The festival takes place at 11313 N.
