City of Spencer Starts Discussion on Finding Next City Manager

Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council met in special session Monday evening to get some initial recommendations on how to start the search for the next City Manager.
The meeting began with a formal motion to accept the resignation of Amanda Mack who will be leaving in early June to for a similar position in Watertown, South Dakota. That motion passed by a six to one vote with Councilman Tom Nelson voicing an opinion against the idea.
From there, the council was given some potential options for finding the right candidate to fill the opening that could include bringing in a consultant, but newly hired Human Resources Director Jessica Wright asked that she be given an opportunity to dive into finding Mack’s replacement.
Spencer Council Tables Action on Bid For Wastewater Treatment Plant

Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council discusses the scope of the second phase of its wastewater treatment plant project Monday evening that included the bids that were received.
Michael Washburn with McClure Engineering told the council only one was bid received and it came in above the project estimate which seems to be normal right now when comparing to other similar projects.
Washburn added part of the project will involve making sure the facility is viable for at least a couple of more decades.
Council Hears Update on Hiring Process for Open Positions and Approves Certified Local Government Report

Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council heard an update Monday night on the hiring process for two open positions on the city staff, one of which was just recently created.
City Manager Amanda Mack says there have been several applications received for Human Resources and Planning Director jobs.
The council also approved the Certified Local Government Report that included a brief update on the design process for the Downtown area which was presented by Sheriffa Jones from the Historic Preservation Commission.
Spencer Planning and Zoning Talks Changes for Redemption Centers

Spencer, IA (KICD) A change could be coming to zoning for redemption centers locally at the recommendation of the Spencer Planning and Zoning Committee this week.
Building Code Official Anna Harmon tells us the question arose when a company inquired about staring a can and bottle redemption center in an area currently zoned for light industrial.
The Spencer City Council will have its first reading on the matter on February 1st.
