Community Re-Engaged We are not finished with this pandemic, or maybe I should say that the pandemic is not yet finished with us, but it sure feels as if most of us have moved on. Maybe it’s the amount of time that has passed since Covid-19 overwhelmed us, maybe it’s the pace of the vaccine rollout, or that nagging sense that masks and virtual meetings are now our new way of life. Whatever it is, we’ll never quite be the same, but we’re adjusting. One thing we have to reacquaint ourselves with is our sense of community. It’s not that we lost it, but it went underground over the past year and we’ve had far less of those events and opportunities where we can nurture our sense of community and civic pride. One recent event that did my heart good was the community clean-up that took place on March 27.

Giving the Peace Park a Chance

Presentation was made on location of the planned Rotary Peace Park. The RTO have been very supportive of Rotary in the past, giving support to feed students thru the Nutrition on Weekends program (NOW), the Splash Park and to the building of the Rotary Peace Park. (file) In the northwestern corner of Alabama, the town of Phil Campbell is starting to see some light at the end of a very long and treacherous tunnel. “Everything here is related to pre-tornado and post-tornado,” explained Phil Campbell City Councilwoman Lynn Landers. RELATED: On April 27, 2011, a violent EF5 tornado ripped through the Phil Campbell area of Franklin County, killing 27 people and destroying 937 structures in its path. A total of 430 of those homes and buildings were in the Phil Campbell city limits. Of those, 85% sustained major damage or were decimated.
