Sáez, a kindergarten Spanish Immersion teacher, said the bilingual book marks March 12, 2020, the last day students were in school for the 2019-20 school year before Gov. John Carney closed Delaware public schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Election preview: 7 candidates vie for 3 seats on Eugene 4J School Board

All three of Eugene School Board s seats up for election this year are contested, with seven candidates appearing on the ballot.  Most of the candidates are newcomers, with the exception of sole incumbent Judy Newman. Whoever wins each of the seats will hold it for a full four-year term. The Register-Guard sent all the candidates a questionnaire that asked about relevant experience, reasons for running and plans to make schools more inclusive. Here s a bit more about each of the candidates, based on their responses.  Since filing, Dakota James Boulette, 22, decided to stop campaigning and instead is supporting Maya Rabasa for the seat. However, Boulette s name still will appear on the ballot. Candidate Bryan Costa did not return multiple calls for comment.  

1st class of Sioux Falls Spanish Immersion students to graduate

The Sioux Falls School District s first class of Spanish Immersion students will graduate this spring, and parents and students are praising the program s success. The district s school board heard report from school officials at Monday night s meeting about how the program, which opened in one elementary school in 2008, has gone for the last 13 years. And that included first-hand accounts from those about to cross the stage. From its inception in 2008, the program’s first kindergarten class included 25 students at Rosa Parks Elementary School. Now, those students are graduating from high school, and the district boasts five schools and more than 1,100 students in the program.

Students unharmed at Plymouth school after report of gunfire

(AP) Students at a middle school in Plymouth are safe after officers responded to gunfire Monday morning. A student who fired the gunshots is in custody, but Plymouth Middle School remained locked down, according to police. Robbinsdale School District Superintendent Stephanie Burrage said at a briefing outside the school that multiple shots were fired in a hallway outside a bathroom at the school. Several students witnessed the gunfire, Burrage said, but she would not disclose whether the shooter said anything before opening fire. A school resource officer apprehended the suspect. Plymouth Police Chief Erik Fadden said they are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the shooting. Officers responded to the school about 8:45 a.m.
