Re-elected Spanish Director Advocates for New IWF 02/19/21 (ATR) The re-elected president of the Spanish Weightlifting Federation, Constantino Iglesias, affirms that a new IWF is unavoidable. Constantino Iglesias (COE) Iglesias, a native of the autonomous community Castilla y León, spoke with Around the Rings shortly after winning election for a second term until 2024 against Emilio Estarlik. Iglesias was the winner by a large margin: 48 votes in favor and 10 against and no abstention. He has more than 50 years in weightlifting as an athlete, coach, international judge and manager. New laws proposed to crack down on doping in Spain ahead of Olympics

Olive Press News Spain Share SPAIN’S Sports Minister has approved changes to anti-doping legislation in the hope of avoiding a ban on its athletes attending the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.  New anti-doping measures were discussed during a meeting between the country’s Sports Minister José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes and Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) President Alejandro Blanco, with the pair agreeing to three new pillars that will ‘enhance sport in Spain’.  These pillars include a law to ‘prioritise’ women’s competition, university events and minority sports and overhaul legislation first introduced in 1990 tackle doping.  New laws would be put in place to ensure Spain met all the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
