Greece and Russia strengthen relations on Civil Protection issues

Greece’s Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias and Russia’s Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations Alexander Chupriyan discussed strengthening relations between Athens and Moscow in the field of Civil Protection during an e-meeting held on Thursday.
Hardalias stated that the priorities are extroversion, exchange of experts, know-how and good practices, organisation of joint exercises and trainings, as well as close cooperation in the whole range of disaster management including prevention and rehabilitation.

The minister stressed that the strengthening of bilateral cooperation with Russia, a country with significant know-how and capabilities in the above areas, acquires special added value.

Sputnik Hellas, the president of the Hellenic Solution political party, Kyriakos Velopoulos, expressed the view that Greece should adopt a concept beyond the European and American establishment and demands the immediate supply of the Russian vaccine.
“Greece must distance itself from the EU and get the Russian Sputnik V vaccine immediately. Germany are constantly looking after its own interest and procures medicines and vaccines without asking anyone, and so should Greece,” he said.

“Our country must realize that the Germans finally realised that the vaccines they approved gave them more headaches than solutions – see what happens to the drug war. As a result, the EU will have to get the Russian vaccine,” the party leader said.

Cuban ambassador to Greece, Zelmys María Domínguez Cortina, spoke to
Sputnik Hellas about Cuban vaccines for COVID-19, tensions between Cuba and the U.S., and the mud thrown against the Cuban medical brigade, which is a candidate for Nobel Peace Prize.

“Such a dialogue, in order to be effective, must begin on the basis of respect for the rules of international law and be conducted without interventions and arbitrators within a commonly accepted framework of principles and procedures with full respect for territorial integrity and national sovereignty, in the spirit of Helsinki Final Act,” he said.
What will happen to military service: “It is needed, especially in the midst of tensions with Turkey”
The increase in compulsory military service is being considered by the Ministry of National Defense, however the changes will not be immediate as the main concern is the defense shield of Greece with armament programs.
On the table is the increase of military service from 9 months – as it is today – to 12, but this is not expected to happen in the near future.
Ministry of Defense circles confirm to
Sputnik Hellas that the issue of increasing military service is being considered, however it is not at the top of the list of priorities of the political leadership.
