STAR kicks off with four projects aimed at helping individual artists and organizations: grants for NYC-area musical talent, complimentary radio airtime for New York cultural nonprofits, a weekly radio series featuring performances recorded live at New York City and regional performing arts organizations, and several ongoing partnerships with New York City institutions.

Chinese New Year celebrations, which typically attract a crowd at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden in Livingston, will happen virtually this year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The virtual event, which will take place over Zoom from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, will mark the beginning of the “year of the Ox.” Those who join the Zoom will make traditional crafts, hear stories of Chinese New Year and join in a “virtual parade” with homemade percussion to “scare off evil spirits.”

Three officers sustained minor injuries when a marked police car hit a pothole, careened out of control and struck a fence at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden in Livingston, police said. The single-vehicle crash occurred at about 11:55 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of Richmond Terrace and Tysen Street, according to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
