Walmart s Mexico unit boosts logistics spending in $1bln capex plan
Walmart’s Mexico unit will ramp up logistics spending this year as a part of a 22.2bln peso ($1.09bln) plan aimed at further boosting online sales, which soared in 2020, the retailer said. Walmart de Mexico said it will put a quarter of its capex into logistics, compared to just 14% devoted to the segment in 2020, and invest even more heavily in the area over the next 5 years while pulling back on spending for brick-and-mortar supermarkets. The move mirrors its parent company’s investments in online sales.

Nisa partners have reached a milestone with Snappy Shopper, with the 50th store signing up for the shopping app, since the partnership began in September last year.
The symbol group expects up to 250-500 more Nisa stores will use the app by end of 2021.
Ian Bacon from Nisa, said: “It’s great that we’re able to join forces with Snappy Shopper to support Nisa retailers to avail of these services in their local communities. We know offering delivered services is a great way for Nisa partners to reach even more shoppers which is increasingly important and we look forward to seeing how the partnership progresses during 2021.”

Snappy Shopper has signed up over 50 retailers in the four months it has been working with Nisa
Snappy Shopper is aiming to recruit as many as 500 Nisa retailers by the end of the year.
The online grocery platform has so far signed up over 50 retailers in the four months it has been working with Nisa.
Average basket size for orders via the app tend to be between £25 and £35 but some retailers are taking orders of up to £150. Some retailers are also reporting the app is driving incremental growth and even bringing new shoppers into their stores for the first time.
Recruiting retailers is a competitive game. And one that generally plays out best in a face-to-face environment.
But coronavirus put an end to all that. No longer could the big symbol and franchise groups rely on trade shows, store visits and face-to-face meetings to tempt new members. Suddenly, operators had to adapt their recruitment plans to an online world.
Replacing the power of annual trade shows, which typically attract thousands of visitors, was no mean feat. Yet nine of the leading 14 fascias managed to hold onto or expand their numbers last year.
The most impressive figures came in from Booker’s Premier and Parfetts Go Local – both of which grew store numbers by 150 – while Londis was also up by more than 100 stores. Meanwhile, Nisa signed up 73 more stores in 2020 than it did the previous year despite the challenges created by the pandemic.
All prices will be the same as in store with a minimum order of £15
