New York mayoral candidate Andrew Yang desperately tried to win the endorsement of a prominent Democratic LGBT+ group – and failed, hard.
On Wednesday (21 April) Yang was among several candidates interviewed by the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City before voting on an endorsement.
He attempted to curry favour with the LGBT+ community but only managed to cause offence with a bizarre, “cringeworthy” speech that smacked of tokenism, members said.
“It was like he never met a gay person his life, even though he kept reminding us people on his staff were gay,” filmmaker Harris Doran, who attended the meeting, told

Andrew Yang, the former presidential candidate and leading contender for mayor of New York City, met with a prominent L.G.B.T. Democratic political organization on Wednesday to seek its endorsement.
It did not go particularly well.

The Stonewall Democratic Club has pledged to boycott the Chateau Marmont until it demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that all workers regardless of their race, sex, or background feel treated with dignity and respect.
The Chateau Marmont fired virtually its entire workforce in March 2020, leaving workers who had dedicated decades of their lives to the hotel without job security or affordable healthcare during the pandemic. Many of the hotel’s workers have since spoken out about their experiences working at “Hollywood’s Playground,” prompting an outcry of concern from community leaders.
