In March 2021, Hawaii hotels statewide reported similar revenue per available room (RevPAR), average daily rate (ADR), and occupancy compared to March 2020. This was the first time in a year where those performance indicators were not substantially down. However, results differed by county. Year-to-date, the statistics for statewide hotel RevPAR, ADR, and occupancy were much lower compared to the first three months of 2020 as Hawaii’s quarantine order for travelers due to the COVID-19 pandemic began on March 26, 2020, which immediately resulted in dramatic declines for the hotel industry.

SPOKANE, Wash. Tourism’s been hit hard. Fewer people traveling means less business for hotels, but new data shows Spokane is faring much better compared to larger cities such as Seattle and Portland.
The data comes from STR, Inc., a nationally used hotel-data collection firm. Data from the report says Spokane saw more tourism action in 2020 than other cities. In a normal year, Spokane would see around 80% hotel room occupancy during peak-hotel seasons. Last year was anything but normal; however, Spokane stayed competitive. Spokane Valley hit 70% occupancy. Spokane County hit 55% capacity, and downtown Spokane hit 45% occupancy.

Sharp drops in hotel occupancy as a result of January’s soft shutdown to deal with Thailand’s second Covid-19 outbreak as well as various challenges, including unequal domestic travel rebound and vaccination limitations, have led travel analytics firms STR, Inc and C9 Hotelworks to predict a slow year for the Kingdom’s hotel industry.
According to Jesper Palmqvist, area director Asia Pacific for STR, Thailand occupancy for the full year of 2020 ended at 23.5 per cent, compared to 72 per cent in 2019, using Total Room Inventory (TRI) Occupancy, where the metric includes hotels that are temporarily closed.
