Ermin Street closed by police after teenage girl hit by car suffers leg injury

A BUSY Stratton road was closed off while emergency services help a teenager who was hit by a car. Police cars and ambulances blocked Ermin Street this afternoon while a teenage girl was treated and taken to hospital. A South West Ambulance Service Trust spokesman said: We were called at 3.06pm, and have treated a female teenager and transported her to hospital by land ambulance with a serious leg injury. A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: At 3.15pm today, we responded to reports that a teenage girl had been hit by a car in Ermin Street, Stratton St Margaret in Swindon.

The emergency services were called to Castlefields Canal and River Park in Calne at 1:15pm. A spokesman for the fire service said: A fire crew from Calne, the animal rescue unit from Stratton St Margaret and an animal rescue trained officer have attended the river Marden in Calne, where a number of cows were stranded in water and showing signs of distress. One cow released itself without assistance, one cow was unfortunately found to be deceased, and another cow was rescued from the river by the animal rescue team. The deceased cow was removed by the farmer using farm machinery.

The cows were stranded in the River Marden at Castlefields Canal and River Park and were showing signs of distress. A fire crew from Calne, the animal rescue unit from Stratton St Margaret and an animal rescue trained officer responded to the call at 1.14pm. On arrival, one cow released itself without needing their help. Another needed rescuing by the animal rescue specialists. Sadly, the third cow was found to have died.
