Access to protection and remedy for victims of labour exploitation 1 May 2021 A new published ILO study provides insights into the avenues for protection and remedy that exist in both Belgium and the Netherlands for human trafficking victims for the purpose of labour exploitation. In addition to mechanisms specifically put in place for identified trafficked persons through the criminal justice system, the study also examines the availability of alternative avenues for remedy in civil or labour judicial proceedings, complaint mechanisms through the labour inspectorate and other state operated compensation mechanisms for victims of violent crime, workplace accidents or insolvency schemes. This is especially relevant in cases when legal investigations or criminal court procedures have stopped or when persons have not been identified formally as a victim of human trafficking.

GRETA elections will be held on 4th of June 23 Apr 2021 Following the resignation of former LS Moldova Director Ana Revenco from GRETA, an election to fill the now vacant seat will be held on 4 th June, at the 28th meeting of the Committee of the Parties. 8 nominations from 8 countries have been received, from Iceland, Norway, United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, Spain and Denmark. Serbia also sent in 3 candidates, but after the deadline. From the 8 nominated candidates, 4 candidates were nominated before. LSI is happy to see that all candidates have relevant expertise to be elected for GRETA. In consultation with our membership, we in particular support the Polish candidate Ms Małgorzata

Several new publications by LSI members 23 Apr 2021 Several new publications were recently launched by La Strada International members. FLEX and Anti – Slavery International published with seven other UK based organisations a joint briefing  on access to work for survivors of slavery  and are calling on the Home Office to ensure that survivors of trafficking have access to work, which is vital in supporting their recovery and enabling independence beyond the National Referral Mechanism (NRM). Also promoting access to employment, Animus Association in Bulgaria and LEFÖ IBF in Austria published with other NGOs a Guide for integrated service provision to support access to employment for Third Country National Women Victims of Trafficking for Sexual Exploitation in the framework of the ‘Tolerant project, an AMIF funded project aiming to enhance the integration of third country national women victims of trafficking in the labour market through employment support.
