STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Giant models of wildlife, once used to promote a popular fashion brand, found a new home on Staten Island this week.
The global luxury fashion company Burberry donated the large-scale animal sculptures to Materials for the Arts, an organization through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs that provides city-based arts nonprofits, public schools and agencies with access to free materials. The organization offered the items to the Staten Island Zoo in West Brighton, which will display them.

But, don’t celebrate too soon, forecasters warn.
Instead, keep in mind that March can be a tumultuous month, and in the past it has delivered powerful punches of unpredictable weather here in New York City.
“That’s the tricky part about this time of year,’ said David Stark, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “It can be deceiving when you get some mild weather, but we’re not too far from where these colder air masses come from in Canada. You can still get a snowstorm if the timing is right and the conditions are favorable.’
Every NYC borough has a Main Street and a Broadway.
In Manhattan, Broadway runs north from Bowling Green and, under a variety of names, runs north in NY State almost all the way to the Canadian border. Other than a few other aboriginal roads such as the Bowery and St. Nicholas Ave., it’s one of the few roads that predated the colonial era that’s still in use on Manhattan Island; it was used by the Lenape Indians before the Dutch arrived, and was probably in use by the buffalo before the Native-Americans arrived. It is “broad” in a physical sense only when you get north of Columbus Circle it’s of average width south of that, and called Broadway (Brede-weg) because it was wide in comparison to the narrow cart paths of New Amsterdam that were laid out when the area was first colonized in the 1620s. In the 2000s, traffic engineers have rendered Broadway as no longer a completely uninterrupted road, and it’s a pedestrian plaza for parts of Times Square and Herald Square.

The Staten Island Zoo is weathering a storm of controversy over the prediction made by its resident groundhog, Staten Island Chuck, on Feb. 2 an annual event at the zoo. Chuck popped up on a Facebook livestream at the designated hour, on the designated day, but something seemed . off. After hours of accumulating snow in the New York area, the
New York Post reported, Chuck was seen to emerge into bright sunlight with no snow on the ground, his handlers wearing sweatshirts. So there ya have it, folks, we re gonna have an early spring, announced zoo executive director Ken Mitchell. Viewers weren t fooled, one commenting, Welppp, this isn t live. Previous Groundhog Day celebrations at the zoo have also raised a ruckus. In 2014, a stand-in groundhog named Charlotte died after being dropped by Mayor Bill de Blasio, and in 2009 Chuck bit Mayor Mike Bloomberg s finger.
