(KNSI) – Stearns County laid the foundation for the historic courthouse 100 years ago.
Construction started on the courthouse in St. Cloud in 1921, and the building was completed in 1922.
According to the Stearns History Museum, the county needed a new government center because they outgrew the original courthouse built-in 1865. Starting in the 1910s and 1920s, the county’s population grow by more than 15,000.

Charles Skooglun, out of St. Paul, was hired to build the courthouse. Architects Toltz, King, and Day of St. Paul designed the building in the Beaux-Arts style.

St. Cloud man charged with strangling woman Saturday

A St. Cloud man is accused of throwing a woman to the ground and choking her during an incident on Saturday, according to Stearns County Court records.
Keith Earl Mosley, 52, faces one felony charge for domestic assault by strangulation and two misdemeanor domestic assault charges.
When police met with the victim on Saturday she was visibly upset, had scratches on her arms and reported having chest pains, according to the statement of probable cause. She told police that she went to a neighbor s home where Mosley arrived unannounced and accused her of taking drugs from him.

Mighty Ducks.
Producers looked at over 30 courthouses before picking Stearns County for this honor. Producer
Jordan Kerner called the courthouse “a jewel”, stating that he thought it was “the most beautiful courthouse in the area.” These courtroom scenes open the movie, with the rest of the motion picture being filmed mostly in the Twin Cities.
