Kremi topped the market during Thursday s trading

Ice cream manufacturer, Caribbean Cream which trades as Kremi topped the market during Thursday’s trading on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE). Kremi stock gained 15 per cent to close at $6.34, followed by Consolidated Bakeries which gained 14 per cent to $1.75 and Sterling Investments which gained 7.0 per cent to $5.56. The top declining stock was Victoria Mutual Investments down 5.0 per cent to $5.37. The JSE Combined Index advanced by 493.20 points (0.12 per cent) to close at 395,688.31. The JSE Index advanced by 213.26 points (0.05 per cent) to close at 394,522.77. The Junior Market Index advanced by 27.15 points (0.90 per cent) to close at 3,040.03. The JSE USD Equities Index declined by 0.42 points (0.20 per cent) to close at 210.85. The JSE Financial Index advanced by 0.02 points (0.02 per cent) to close at 99.20. The JSE Manufacturing & Distribution Index advanced by 0.28 points (0.30 per cent) to close at 94.47.

The promoters of Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) Group, the Mistry family, are all set to receive a Rs 4500-Rs 5000 crore lifeline from Ares SSG and US hedge fund Farallon Capital, two top special situations financiers that will help them meet their immediate liquidity concerns. Term sheet between both sides have already been signed and an announcement is expected within the next 7-10 days, said people familiar with the development.

Palace, Sterling and Purity led gains on Thursday

The market rewarded investors who held shares in companies that sell bread, movies and bonds. Palace Amusement, Sterling Investments and Consolidated Bakeries led double-digit gains during Thursday’s trading of the Jamaica Stock Exchange. Consolidated Bakeries which manufactures the Purity and Miss Birdie brands of bread and snacks gained 20 per cent to $1.38; Palace which operates a theatre chain gained 15 per cent to close at $1.296 and Sterling which focuses on US bond investments gained 16 per cent to close at US$0.02. The top declining stock was The Lab, which operates an advertising and film production agency, down 13 per cent to $2.58. The JSE Combined Index advanced by 545.81 points (0.14 per cent) to close at 391,854.57; the JSE Index advanced by 425.29 points (0.11 per cent) to close at 394,786.75 and the JSE All Jamaican Composite Index advanced by 626.97 points (0.15 per cent) to close at 432,827.48.
