Despite a series of last-minute concessions offered by a landowner and homebuilding company, Greenville County Council members refused Tuesday to approve a rezoning request for a 428-home subdivision on Old Grove Road.
As a result of the council s 7-5 vote, the 152-acre tract near Grove Elementary School will have to go through the rezoning process again, and that could take months.
In an effort to get the rezoning for the Grant Park subdivision approved, landowner Phil Hughes offered to set aside 17 acres of the property for up to 100 affordably priced homes. Meritage Homes also agreed to pay $482,000 for road improvements and sidewalks, as well as make a $200,000 donation to the community.

I’d checked the address over and over again, so I knew I was in the right place: Dugan’s Backyard Playhouse. It didn’t look like a theater, but I hadn’t expected it to. I knew Tom Dugan was doing his one-person show “The Ghosts of Mary Lincoln” on a makeshift outdoor stage at his house, on this quiet Woodland Hills cul-de-sac. I had RSVP’d. It would be not be creepy of me to skulk across his lawn and slip through the open back gate at nightfall.
Even so, I felt transgressive. After staying home for more than a year, I had the sense that I was sneaking into a speakeasy or infiltrating a séance.

Any information â no matter how trivial it may seem â could turn out to be the difference maker or provide a crucial missing piece toward solving the puzzle of a case long gone cold, Johnson County Sheriffâs Office Cold Case Squad member Jim Ferguson said.
To that end, JCSOâs Cold Case Squad recently set up an email for submission of tips on cold cases.

Greenville County Council members have delayed moving ahead with the repeal of a controversial land-use rule that has sparked legal battles.
Council Chairman Willis Meadows called last month for repealing the rule known as Article 3.1 that is meant to ensure new housing developments in unzoned, rural areas are compatible with their surroundings.
But council members voted 7-5 Tuesday night to send Meadows proposal to a committee for further consideration. I think we do have an obligation as a council to come up with a solution to this problem, Councilman Butch Kirven said.
Critics say the rule is overly vague, which makes it vulnerable to court challenges.
