Derrick Evans, facing federal charges for entering the U.S. Capitol with a mob, has resigned from West Virginia’s House of Delegates.
“I hereby resign as a member of the House of Delegates, effective immediately,” Evans said in a one-page letter submitted to Gov. Jim Justice and the House.

West Virginia lawmakers are calling for the removal of a House delegate who has been charged with breaking into the U.S. Capitol along with a mob of pro-Trump rioters on Wednesday.
Derrick Evans, a newly elected Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, is facing federal charges after livestreaming a video in which he surged through a door in the interior of the Capitol building.
According to a deputy federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., Evans is being charged with entering restricted area and entering the United States Capitol, West Virginia MetroNews reported.

Newly-sworn in West Virginia Delegate Derrick Evans now faces federal charges after sweeping into the U.S. Capitol with a mob this week, federal law enforcement officials said during a press call today.
“We’re in! We’re in! Derrick Evans is in the Capitol!” the new lawmaker said live on video.
He faces two federal misdemeanors, both punishable with fines and potential jail time: entering a restricted public building and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
The initial announcement of the charges against Evans came partway into a press briefing today with acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin for the District of Columbia. The federal officials participating in the call seemed to learn of the charges in that moment and said more detail would be released soon.
