More than 25 staff members affected by Covid-19 outbreak at Perth Fire Station Updated: February 23, 2021, 6:03 pm © Steve MacDougall / DCT Media More than 25 members of staff at Perth Fire Station have been affected by a Covid-19 outbreak at the emergency service facility. Eight staff members have tested positive for the virus while a further 19 employees at the station have been forced to quarantine due to the outbreak. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed the cases but said the station remained open with cover in place for emergencies. Gordon Pryde, SFRS local senior officer for Perth, Kinross, Angus and Dundee, said: “We can confirm that eight members of staff at Perth Fire Station have tested positive for Covid-19.

Staff at Branston in Abernethy were confirmed to have the virus with several more forced into isolation because of the outbreak. The company will now close down for around 36 hours from Friday to undergo a deep clean – though bosses say staff will still be paid in full during the shutdown and holiday days would be credited back to staff.

Perth has become the first city in the UK to have resident urban beavers, according to a new study. The aquatic mammals are establishing a “strong presence” in the Fair City, according to researchers conducting the most comprehensive survey ever of the animal in Scotland. The survey, conducted by Exeter University for government agency NatureScot, has been set up to gather detailed, up-to-date information on the location and number of active beaver territories, as well as to assess the health and spread of the overall population, after beavers became extinct in Scotland several hundred years ago.
