Hopkinsville City Council swears in new HPD officer

The Hopkinsville City Council swore in new Hopkinsville Police Department officer Cassidy Martinez during May’s first city council meeting Tuesday night. Before Mayor Wendell Lynch recited the oath to Martinez, HPD Chief Clayton Sumner gave the council a background on the 21-year-old officer. Martinez, originally from New York, graduated from Christian County High School in 2017 and was hired as a Public Safety Officer for the department in April 2018. After graduating from the Department of Criminal Justice Training Police Academy in Richmond, Kentucky and turning 21, she was hired as an officer, Sumner said. Martinez will be working with senior police training officers within the department for the next six months and following her graduation from the internal program will be sent out on solo patrols, Sumner added.

Council hears update on flooding problems, approves budget amendments

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio May 4, 2021 | 7:19 PM Hopkinsville City Council approved amendments to the 20-21 budget at Tuesday’s meeting and heard an update from Surface Storm Water and Utility. Community Development Services Director Steve Bourne came before council with an update about flooding concerns in the area of ‘the pit’ at Lafayette Road and Country Club Lane.  That location has been filled in and historically flooded and collected water during a flooding event in February, property surrounding that area was victim to high water.  Bourne says once they were able to go in, they discovered an outflow pipe was clogged and were able to address that problem.

City council hears flooding concerns, approves Greenway System amenities

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Mar 2, 2021 9:25 PM Hopkinsville City Council met in-person for the first time since November at Tuesday’s meeting, where they heard from multiple concerned citizens about flooding issues in the city. Hopkinsville and Christian County was hit by flooding Sunday, and many places saw a significant amount of water, though reportedly none entered any living spaces during the event. Alison Kieth says she owns several properties that house homeless veterans and others in need near the intersection of Cox Mill Road and South Virginia Street, and she’s ready for something to be done to help protect those individuals from flooding dangers.
