March 6, 2020: Pennsylvania confirms its first cases of COVID-19.
March 6, 2021: More than 900,000 Pennsylvanians have been sickened to varying degrees. More than 24,000 have died. These figures include more than 58,000 cases and 1,400 deaths in the Lehigh Valley.
The coronavirus has surged, ebbed and surged again. The last year has seen mask requirements, travel restrictions, shutdowns, reopenings and, most recently, vaccines.
It’s easy to forget the details of a year that simultaneously dragged and blurred: The uncertainty of the earliest days, the frustration waiting for the “green phase,” the anxiety as cases soared to their worst levels around the holidays. Sacrifices have been made by all: Social interaction for most of us; livelihoods for some; lives for too many others.

One of the Lehigh Valley’s snowiest months on record is over and it appears, at least for now, that the worst of the 2020-21 winter is behind us.
