The Wham! star was a huge fan of the BBC soap.
Martin Kemp has revealed he had George Michael to thank for bagging the role of Steve Owen on EastEnders.
The Spandau Ballet star played the dodgy businessman between 1998 and 2002, but it only came about because the Wham! singer pulled some strings with one of the show’s producers.
But there was also a condition that George - who was a huge fan of the BBC soap - insisted upon.

Martin Kemp has revealed that the late George Michael got him his role as Steve Owen in EastEnders, with the Careless Whisper singer demanding he wear one of his jumpers on the show in return.
Speaking on his show Martin and Roman s Weekend Best on Saturday, the Spandau Ballet star, 59, recalled how George, who passed away in 2016, was a huge fan of the BBC soap and orchestrated him landing the part of the Walford bad boy.
Martin, whose wife Shirlie Kemp (née Holliman) starred with George in Wham! in the 1980s, told how George loved him wearing his clothes on the BBC soap after he had snuck on a jumper.

A man accused of gunning down a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant and nearly running over another deputy in 2016 pleaded guilty to murder Thursday and is expected to be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole under the terms of a plea deal next month, officials said.
Sgt. Steve Owen, 53, was responding to a report of a break-in when he was shot by 31-year-old Trenton Lovell, authorities have said. Lovell previously confessed to emptying his revolver into Owen’s body during the deadly confrontation, admitting he “finished the job,” according to court documents made public in 2018.
