Nebraska State Senator Steve Erdman has introduced a resolution in the Unicameral calling for a Consumption Tax. That bill has passed out of committee and it calls for eliminating of property, income and corporate taxes and replacing them with the consumption tax. The Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska back the bill. President Jim Dinklage says while they’re in favor of the legislation also decided to individually fund the consumption tax ballot drive.
He says the fairest way to tax citizens is through the consumption tax and that’s why he and his group support it.

In the Nebraska Legislature Wednesday, senators moved toward making more people eligible for food assistance. And, a proposal intended to protect student journalists was stopped by a filibuster.
The food assistance proposal was sponsored by Sen. John McCollister. It would raise the income families could have and still qualify for SNAP benefits, or food stamps.
