Cheshire East refuse road plan for Glebe Farm development

PLANNING officers have voted overwhelmingly to refuse an application from a housing developer to open up a already busy lane in Middlewich to construction traffic, saying it poses a road safety risk. In a strongly worded riposte to the application, Cllr Mike Hunter, Chair of Cheshire East Council s Strategic Planning Board, said accepting the plan would be dangerous and that he wasn t prepared for the developers to ride roughshod over the council and its authority. Seven members of the committee voted to refuse the application, which would have allowed construction traffic to use Warmington Lane to access the Taylor Wimpey site Glebe Farm site.

Cheshire East leaders approve 4 99 per cent tax-hike budget

At a meeting of Cheshire East’s cabinet this afternoon (Tuesday, February 2), councillors voted to send the authority’s budget for full council approval later this month. Officially known as the Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS), it lays out the borough’s spending and tax plans from 2021-25 and shows that council chiefs are planning to raise council tax by 4.99 per cent in 2021-22.

An NHS England consultation into the planned introduction of integrated care systems (ICS) across the country from April 2022 has just closed, which would replace clinical commissioning groups in some cases. In Cheshire, it would mean the county’s NHS Cheshire CCG could be scrapped despite only being created in April 2020 to make way for a Cheshire-Merseyside ICS. At a meeting of Cheshire East Council’s health scrutiny committee, councillors outlined their concerns over the move to regional NHS officials.
