Read / Add Comments A 31-year-old hiker died after he lost his footing while reaching for a piece of equipment and fell more than 20 feet at a Hudson Valley preserve. Evrim Cabuk, of Brooklyn, was found dead around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 22,  in Ulster County when New York State Police responded to the Mohonk Preserve in the vicinity of Undercliff Trail in the town of Gardiner for a report of a man with a head injury, said Trooper Steven Nevel.  New Paltz EMS and Mohonk Preserve Rangers were on the scene when troopers arrived.  The initial investigation revealed that Cabuk was retrieving a piece of hiking equipment when he lost his footing and fell approximately 20 feet striking his head on a rock, Nevel said.

Two Women Nabbed Vandalizing Vehicles In Area, State Police Say

Read / Add Comments A pair of women have been accused of damaging two vehicles with derogatory words in the area, authorities announced.  Sullivan County residents Rachel Bates, age 27, of Eldred, and Jennifer Hickey, age 24, of Highland Lake, were arrested on Monday, May 11 around 12:15 a.m. by state police are they responded to an Eldred home for a report of vandalism, said Trooper Steven Nevel. According to Nevel, the owners of the vehicles, a 2013 Honda Civic and a 2012 Dodge Ram, were looking out of a window of their home when they witnessed the women near their vehicles.  An investigation revealed that Bates and Hickey did extensive damage to both vehicles by scratching derogatory words into the paint, Nevel said.

Man, Woman Nabbed After Armed Robbery At Area Deli, Police Say

Read / Add Comments A man and woman were arrested by New York State Police for allegedly robbing an area deli at gunpoint. The incident took place around 1 p.m., Sunday, May 2 in Orange County. State police responded to a burglary at the Westbrookville Deli on  Route 209 in the town of Deerpark, said Trooper Steven Nevel. An investigation revealed that a man and woman entered the deli and stated that they had a gun and demanded money, Nevel said. The couple fled the area in a gray 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt with Pennsylvania plates.  The vehicle was stopped by the town of Deerpark Police Department on Oakland Valley Road.
