Sky One’s A Discovery of Witches has built up a loyal legion of fans thanks to its magical blend of fantasy, sizzling romance and dark drama.
Based on the novels of Deborah Harkness and filled with vampires, witches and daemons, the show returns for a second season in a new location - Elizabethan London.
The shift in timelines means the show’s lead characters Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont, played by Teresa Palmer and Matthew Goode, will be joined by a collection of new characters.

Brianna Fraser (played by Sophie Skelton) hasn’t had the easiest time in Outlander. After spending her childhood believing Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) was her father, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) revealed she was actually the child of 18th Century highlander Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Since then, she has learned she can travel back in time, was sexually assaulted by Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speelers) and almost lost husband Roger (Richard Rankin). The drama is only just beginning for Brianna as the Revolutionary War, which is fast approaching, is sure to cause more disruption.

Outlander fans are desperately waiting for the show to return with the coronavirus pandemic affecting filming. The wait for season six could potentially be the longest one in the history of the Starz show to date. Many fans are very curious to know what could happen next and if Outlander could return to its home of Scotland, reuniting audiences with the Murray clan.
The Tudor setting also enabled the introduction of real-life historical characters, including playwright Christopher Marlowe, played by Victoria star Tom Hughes, and Queen Elizabeth (Casualty’s Barbara Marten in a role she was clearly born to play) whose advanced years do not preclude her from flirting with Clairmont.
“I’m having it written into all his main scenes that women find me attractive,” jokes Goode. Also joining the cast is Outlander star Steven Cree, playing Clairmont’s nephew Gallowglass, a towering warrior fierce in battle but equally unafraid of revealing his soft heart.
Sheila Hancock’s Goody Alsop is a powerful witch who Diana meets shortly after arriving back in 1590. She begins to teach Diana her craft and the pair form a close bond. However, Goody’s health is ailing in her older years.
