Canadian insurance companies including Manulife Financial Corp. have prevailed in appeals court over a claim that holders of certain universal life policies were entitled to make unlimited deposits at a guaranteed rate of interest.
The insurance companies won the initial court case, which was filed in Saskatchewan by Mosten Investment LP, two years ago. They argued that deposits in the accounts had to be for premiums to be paid on the policies.
