The first, most obvious, most succinct reason: Facts.
Maricopa County will destroy the sham election audit and the partisan hacks running it with facts.
Truth.
The supervisors and Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer already have done so. And they’ll do so again when the Cyber Ninjas and their Republican enablers at the Arizona Legislature finally present whatever conspiracy-based fantasy they’re cooking up.
Facts will not convince the Trump cult, of course. We know that already. But they won’t be able to dispute the facts.
Sadly, they believe their Dear Leader is the center of the universe and condemn any who can prove otherwise, sort of the way the Catholic Church 400 years ago charged Galileo with heresy and sentenced him to house arrest for the remainder of his life for espousing the scientific fact that the sun, not the earth, was the center of the solar system.
Stephen Richer tried to stay out of it. "But I am human," the Maricopa County, Arizona, election official wrote for CNN Opinion, "I have my limits." He tweeted "this is unhinged" after former President Trump repeated a lie about a missing election database.
