Las Vegas traditionally rings in the new year with a large and impressive fireworks show at the stroke of midnight. To mark the city’s rebound from the coronavirus pandemic, an even bigger show is planned for the Fourth of July.
Fireworks will be fired off at 11 p.m. from the rooftops of seven hotels on the Strip, marking the first time the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has staged a spectacle on Independence Day.
Fireworks will be fired from the rooftops at Planet Hollywood, Aria, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, the Venetian, the STRAT, and Resorts World. The latter is the Strip’s newest hotel, a 3,500-room monument that opens its doors June 24.

The STRAT has become the latest Las Vegas hotel and casino to have been allowed to reopen services at 100% capacity as Nevada is looking to resume businesses to full capacity by June 1 as part of a plan introduced by Gov. Steve Sisolak in April.
On Monday, the gambling resort was given the green light by the Nevada Gaming Control Board to fully reopen its casino floor. Nevada casinos have been operating with strict anti-pandemic measures in place and at limited capacity since they resumed operations last summer after a three-month state-mandated shutdown of non-essential businesses.

Montgomery: Gov. Kay Ivey will end the state’s participation in federal unemployment programs geared to the pandemic, including supplements to jobless benefits and a suspension of a work-search requirement. The state will withdraw from the program June 19, the governor’s office said in a statement Monday. Applications for the pandemic-related benefits will be processed until then. The decision means the state will withdraw from programs that provided an additional $300 weekly payment in unemployment insurance; extended benefits to self-employed, gig workers and part-time workers; extended benefits for those who’ve exhausted regular benefits; and provided an additional $100 benefit to people with mixed earnings. “Among other factors, increased unemployment assistance, which was meant to be a short-term relief program during emergency
