Marshall County identifies deputies involved in fatal shooting The deputies were identified as Patrolman Richard Prater and Patrolman Blake Bennett. Just before midnight on December 31, a deputy saw a red pickup truck commit a moving violation on US 30 at Pioneer Road. When the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver fled, according to the Indiana State Police. The driver, identified as Jeffrey Marvin, 63, of Valparaiso, led deputies and officers with the Plymouth Police Department on a pursuit through Plymouth into Starke County, ISP said. At a dead-end section of E. South Avenue, Marvin turned around and drove towards pursuing officers and hit two Plymouth Police vehicles and a Marshall County deputy’s vehicle, reports said.

The Indiana State Police have been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting involving deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Just before midnight on December 31, a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department saw a red Chevrolet pickup truck commit a moving violation on US 30 at Pioneer Drive. When the deputy attempted to stop the Chevrolet, the Chevrolet fled from the deputy, who was in his fully marked police vehicle. Two officers with the Plymouth Police Department assisted with the pursuit as the pursuit went through Plymouth. The driver of the Chevrolet is alleged to have swerved at several police vehicles during the pursuit.

Pickup driver dies in police-involved shooting after chase from Plymouth

PLYMOUTH — The driver of a red Chevrolet pickup truck died after he led Marshall County and Plymouth police on a chase around midnight on New Year’s Eve, then was shot by Marshall County deputies, the Indiana State Police reported. State police are investigating the incident, which they say began when a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department saw the driver commit a traffic violation on U.S. 30 at Pioneer Road, at the northwest end of Plymouth. On Friday, police identified the driver as Jeffrey L. Marvin, 63, of Valparaiso. The deputy tried to stop the driver, but the driver fled. Two Plymouth police officers helped with the chase as it went through the city and as the driver swerved at several police vehicles, state police reported.
