Several LLRIB communities on standby notice due to wildfire smoke

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) communities of Grandmother’s Bay, Hall Lake and Stanley Mission are on standby notice due to smoky conditions. That’s means the elderly, young children or residents with health conditions affected by bad air quality should be on alert to be evacuated and prepare one week’s work of medication, clothing and infant formula if needed. So far, 144 people have already voluntarily evacuated Grandmother’s Bay and are staying at hotels in La Ronge and Prince Albert. Footage of the fire near Grandmother’s Bay. (Cook-Searson Tammy Jim/Facebook) According to LLRIB Chief Tammy Cook-Searson, four coach buses are sitting in Otter Lake and are ready to evacuate residents at a moment’s notice. There are no mandatory evacuation order in place for band members.

Smoke and fire warnings for northern Sask as more areas evacuate

Prince Albert Daily Herald Province-wide fire ban remains in effect as fire risk remains high to extreme across Saskatchewan Highway # 2 closed at Rabbit Creek Thursday evening as fires crossed at the Creighton junction. La Ronge fire department Residents of Whelan Bay and Rabbit Creek were evacuated on Thursday, while smoke and fire warnings put several other communities on evacuation alert. Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) vice-president of operations Steve Roberts said there are 129 active fires in the province  up by nine from the day before. “Fire risk remains high to extreme across the province… The fire ban will remain in effect and will be reviewed in a couple days based on those weather conditions,” Roberts said.
