Data Privacy in Higher Education: Yes, Students Care

Students care about their data privacy, and this concern is increasing. A 2016 EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) survey found that one-third of undergraduate students were concerned that technology advances may increasingly invade [their] privacy. A Gallup poll in 2015 found that 44 percent of Millennials believe their personal information is kept private some of the time and that 26 percent believe their personal information is kept private little or none of the time. In 2016, the Gallup poll showed that 44 percent of Millennials trusted companies to keep their personal information private all or most of the time but that 33 percent trusted companies to keep their personal information private little or none of the time, a 7 percentage point increase from 2015. These surveys reflect students growing awareness and distrust of entities possessing their data. In 2018, Gallup found that 39 percent of respondents ages 18 to 49 were very concerned about

Stanford Law Review Elects Its First Iranian-American, Muslim President

February 9, 2021 at 1:11 PM Shares18 Stanford Law School (Photo by King of Hearts via Wikimedia) Harvard Law School’s Law Review recently elected its first Muslim president, adding to a series of noteworthy diversity firsts for the school’s prestigious legal journal. The move attracted much fanfare, but it turns out that Harvard isn’t the only T-14 law school to announce a diversity first for its incoming editorial board. As it turns out, Stanford Law School’s Law Review recently elected its first Iranian-American, Muslim president. Daniel Khalessi ’22 was elected in November 2020, and assumed the role last month. Senior Spotlight: Meghan McClure | The Stanford Daily

A constant on the court for the Stanford women’s volleyball team the last three seasons, senior Meghan McClure has emerged as the team’s clear leader. As a starting outside hitter, McClure helped lead the Cardinal to three conference championships (2017-19) and two NCAA titles (2018, 2019). For her efforts on the court, she has earned All-America honorable mentions from the AVCA (2018) and VolleyballMag.com (2017-19). Her junior year, McClure was awarded the NCAA Elite 90 Award, which is presented to the athlete with the highest GPA who has reached competition at the finals site. An STS major, McClure carried a 3.965 through her junior year. The Daily’s James Hemker sat down with McClure to discuss the upcoming volleyball season, what it means to be a senior in the era of COVID-19 and her time both on and off the court at Stanford.
